Le terme entérovirus désigne l'ensemble des virus qui infectent des cellules des voies digestives et s'y multiplient. Parmi les nombreux virus intestinaux, une famille importante est celle des picornaviridés, qui à son tour comprend plusieurs genres (sous-groupes de virus ayant chacun leur nom et des propriétés analogues) dont les poliovirus, les deux groupes de virus Cocksackie (A et B), les échovirus et les entérovirus proprement dits.
