3, record 2, French, - gestion%20%C3%A9lectronique%20de%20documents

A city of the province of Alberta and its capital located on the North Saskatchewan River, near the geographical centre of the province. Commonly known as the "Gateway to the North" for being the starting point of most of the routes heading north, especially the Alaska Highway. The city started as "Fort Edmonton," on the north bank of the river, who became the dominant centre of the western fur trade among a series of fortified trading posts after the merging, in 1821, of the Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) and the North West Company; it was named for "Edmonton," now part of London, England, the birthplace of a deputy governor of the HBC. The fort was rebuilt in 1830 on the present site of the Alberta Legislature Building, but permanent settlement outside the fort began only in the 1870's. In 1891, a branch of the transcontinental railway came north to Strathcona, a community on the south bank of the North Saskatchewan River, but Edmonton received its own connection through the Canadian Northern Railway only in 1905, on which year it was selected to be the capital of the newly created province of Alberta. Strathcona and Edmonton were amalgamated in 1912. In the following years, Edmonton's growth was linked to its role as an air-transport centre for trans-Canada flights and for bush flying into the North, as a strategic point for northern military operations and the construction of the Alaska Highway, and as a servicing and processing centre for the petroleum industry. 3, record 3, English, - Edmonton

3, record 9, French, - t%C3%A9l%C3%A9m%C3%A8tre%20%C3%A9lectronique
