En portant sur graphique la relation pH versus Ca++, Henriksen (1979) réussit à différencier les lacs acidifiés et non acidifiés des eaux à faible et à moyen pouvoir tampon. Une courbe empirique, estimant les valeurs théoriques de Ca++ à l'équilibre, pour un pH donné, en milieu non acidifié, permet cette différenciation.
