Taylor Jr (1974), les intrusions ignées «épizonales» mises en place dans des roches perméables, comme par exemple des volcanites très fracturées, agissent comme de gigantesques moteurs thermiques déterminant des systèmes hydrothermaux de convection qui persistent lors de la cristallisation et du refroidissement de l'intrusion.
