Depuis 1982, le Festival du cinéma international en Abitibi-Témiscamingue a lieu chaque année dans la ville de Rouyn-Noranda, au Québec, et ne cesse d'étonner par son succès grandissant. Ce Festival est né du rêve et de l'audace de trois ardents cinéphiles, Jacques Matte, Louis Dallaire et Guy Parent. En 1977, ils organisaient la première semaine du cinéma régional, en 1981, la semaine du cinéma québécois en Abitibi-Témiscamingue et en 1982, la première édition du Festival du cinéma international en Abitibi-Témiscamingue. La qualité de sa programmation, ses invités de renommée, l'excellente couverture médiatique, la ferveur de son public et le professionnalisme de son organisation en ont fait un événement reconnu tant par la presse que par les artisans du cinéma.
