Automne 1986, entre Québec et Saint-Jérôme, on est à imaginer un festival de théâtre pour les étudiants du collégial. Si de la cour et du jardin émergent deux formules différentes, le but est unique : mettre sur la place publique le théâtre étudiant fait, réalisé et produit dans les collèges du Québec. Ainsi, le premier festival se tient en 1987 au Cégep de Saint-Jérôme et en simultané dans les collèges de Québec. Chaque année depuis, l'expérience est reprise, chaque fois dans des collèges différents.
