Si la pâte a déjà été portée à une concentration de 12 à 14 pour cent dans un épaississeur sous vide («vacuum thickener»), on peut employer un presse-pâte à vis ou à disques («screw-type or disk-type pulp dewatering press») pour porter la concentration à environ 40 pour cent de matière sèche. Cette pâte est ensuite déchiquetée dans un pelucheur («fluffer») puis séchée dans un courant d'air chaud avant d'être mise en ballots.
