Tambour métallique dont le bord est de forme fractale, recouvert d'une membrane transparente qui vibre sous l'action d'une onde sonore induite par un haut-parleur. Une fine poudre répandue sur la surface de la membrane permet de photographier l'ampleur et la fréquence des vibrations verticales.

OBS

Les travaux de B. Sapoval et de ses collaborateurs ont mis en évidence le caractère localisé des vibrations ainsi que leur grande rapidité d'amortissement. Le terme est la création de M. Berry.
