A successful international conference entitled Literacy 2000: Towards Reintegration was held in Ottawa from April 30th to May 3rd, 2000. This conference was co-hosted by the United States Federal Bureau of Prisons. The conference celebrated the tenth anniversary of the Freedom to Read Conference, which was also held in Ottawa. The main goals of the conference were to share views and best practices, and to raise the awareness of the importance of literacy within the field of criminal justice. 800 delegates from 18 countries, mainly front line correctional educators, attended the Conference. 1, record 1, English, - Freedom%20to%20Read%20Conference

La conférence internationale Alphabétisation 2000 : Vers la réinsertion tenue à Ottawa du 30 avril au 3 mai 2000 a connu un vif succès. Cette conférence, organisée conjointement par le SCC et le Federal Bureau of Prisons des États-Unis, a marqué le dixième anniversaire de la conférence Liberté de lire qui avait aussi eu lieu à Ottawa. La conférence avait pour objectifs principaux de mettre en commun les points de vue et les pratiques exemplaires et de souligner l'importance de l'alphabétisation dans le secteur de la justice pénale.
