Geotechnical investigation. For engineering projects these investigations may include preliminary studies, preconstruction or design investigations, consultation during construction, and the maintenance of the completed structure. 1, record 1, English, - geotechnical%20investigation
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 2 CONT
The scope of the geotechnical site investigation varies with the type of project but typically includes topographic and location surveys, exploratory borings, and groundwater monitoring. Frequently, the borings are supplemented by soundings and test pits. Occasionally, air photo interpretations, in situ testing, and geophysical investigations are conducted. 2, record 1, English, - geotechnical%20investigation

Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 DEF
4, record 1, French, - %C3%A9tude%20g%C3%A9otechnique

Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 DEF
The collection of basic facts about, and the testing of, surface and subsurface materials (including their physical properties, distribution, and geologic structure) at a site, for the purpose of preparing suitable designs for an engineering structure or other use. 10, record 2, English, - site%20investigation

Site investigations. The objective of most geotechnical investigations is to obtain information on the site and subsurface conditions that is required for design and construction of engineered facilities and for evaluation and mitigation of geologic hazards, such as landslides, subsidence, and liquefaction. The site investigation is part of a fully integrated process that includes: 1. Synthesis of available data 2. Field and laboratory investigations 3. Characterization of site stratigraphy and soil properties 4. Engineering analyses 5. Formulation of design and construction criteria or engineering evaluations. 3, record 2, English, - site%20investigation
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Site investigation: as per MABUI 1982 ("Illustrated Dictionary of Building", by Paul Marsh), may not always include a subsoil investigation. 11, record 2, English, - site%20investigation
