Dans le cas général, un isolant doit être recouvert d'une couche conductrice n'altérant pas le relief, donc mince (30 à 100 nm) d'aluminium, d'or, de palladium, de carbone, etc., obtenue par évaporation sous vide dans un appareillage séparé, ou quelquefois in situ. L'objet conducteur, ou rendu tel, doit être électriquement relié à la masse, soit par continuité de la métallisation sur le support soit par contact mécanique, soit encore au moyen de peinture conductrice, vernis à séchage rapide fortement chargé de poudre d'argent ou d'un autre métal (...).
