Implementation and results are described for segmenting the brain in the following types of images: axial (dual-echo spin-echo), coronal (3DFT gradient-echo T1-weighted) all using a conventional head coil; and a sagittal section acquired using a surface coil.

Les performances de la TDM spiralée sont ainsi moindres que celles de l'IRM, que celle-ci utilise des séquences sans injection de produit de contraste (T1 FLASH, T2 Turbo spin-écho, T2 HASTE), des séquences T2 spin-écho avant injection avec saturation de la graisse couplées à des séquences dynamiques post-Gadolinium (écho de gradient T1, ou enfin des séquences post-injection d'oxydes de fer superparamagnétiques (FLASH T1 et densité protonique, T2 Turbo spin-écho).
