Roche à grains serrés, composée d'éléments du granite, dans lesquels sont disséminés de gros cristaux de quartz et de feldspath.

OBS

C'est un granite qui a refroidi dans des conditions filoniennes loin du magma originel, il a donc acquis une structure porphyrique. À ne pas confondre avec les porphyres quartzifères qui sont d'anciennes laves acides. On trouve des porphyres granitiques en Sardaigne et dans l'île d'Elbe.
