Expression peu usitée en France, mais qui pourrait servir à distinguer «le karst nu», où la roche calcaire affleure sur la majeure partie de la surface, du karst où la couverture végétale masque presque complètement les accidents karstiques. Cette couverture provient des sols qui se forment sur un «mérokarst» qui n'est pas nécessairement un karst couvert, ni un karst fossilisé par une abondante masse de dépôts et de sédiments.
