[...] unité de construction de la serre formée par deux parois latérales verticales (ou très légèrement penchées) et un toit à deux pentes, généralement symétrique. La chapelle est caractérisée par sa largeur. Ces dimensions courantes sont approximativement de 3 m, 6 m, 9 m, 12 m et 16 m. Quand deux chapelles consécutives ne sont pas séparées par une paroi verticale interne, on parle de serres multi-chapelles ou de chapelles jumelées.
