Le Gyttja (prononcer youttia) est un dépôt biologiquement actif, gris brun à noirâtre, riche en débris de plantes, d'animaux divers, qui s'observe dans les collections d'eaux riches en éléments nutritifs et peu acides ou neutres. La structure du gyttja est lâche : c'est un dépôt facilement dissocié à teneur en eau élevée.
