In this Act, ... Her Majesty, His Majesty, the Queen or the Crown means the Sovereign of the United Kingdom, Canada and the other Realms and Territories, and Head of the Commonwealth.

Her Majesty the Queen in her role as head of state, represented in Canada by the Governor General.

In Canada, the "legal interests" of the Crown are constitutionally assigned either to the federal, or to the provincial levels of government.

The executive branch of government, i.e. the Queen acting through Her agents (the members of the Cabinet).

On trouve encore l'équivalent «Couronne» à l'article 89 de la Loi sur les élections fédérales contestées, par exemple, dans les lois du Manitoba, du Nouveau-Brunswick et de l'Ontario. Étant donné que la notion d'État [Chef d'État] n'existe pas en common law, la version française doit comporter, le cas échéant, une disposition à l'effet que le terme «État» signifie Sa Majesté.
