En vue de répondre à ces impératifs, les experts en métrologie de toutes les parties des Amériques se sont réunis à Rio de Janeiro le 25 janvier 1995. A la fin de la réunion, 25 pays se sont engagés à participer à un programme ambitieux de collaboration dans cet hémisphère.
