The International Olympic Committee was founded on 23 June 1894 by the French educator Baron Pierre de Coubertin who was inspired to revive the Olympic Games of Greek antiquity. The IOC is an international non-governmental non-profit organisation and the creator of the Olympic Movement. The IOC exists to serve as an umbrella organisation of the Olympic Movement. It owns all rights to the Olympic symbols, flag, motto, anthem and Olympic Games. Le Comité International Olympique (CIO) a été fondé le 23 juin 1894 par l'éducateur français, le baron Pierre de Coubertin, qui eut l'idée de faire revivre les Jeux Olympiques de l'Antiquité grecque. Le CIO est une organisation non gouvernementale, à but non lucratif. C'est aussi l'organe créateur et l'autorité suprême du Mouvement olympique. Il détient tous les droits concernant le symbole, le drapeau, la devise, l'hymne et les Jeux Olympiques. El Comité Olímpico Internacional, creado en el Congreso de París el 23 de junio de 1894, es la suprema autoridad del Movimiento Olímpico. El COI es una organización internacional no gubernamental, sin fines lucrativos, constituida como asociación dotada de personalidad jurídica, reconocida por decreto del Consejo Federal suizo del 17 de septiembre de 1981. La duración es ilimitada. Su domicilio social está en Lausana, Suiza. La misión del COI consiste en dirigir el Movimiento Olímpico conforme a las disposiciones de la Carta Olímpica.
