Les nombreux grès lagunaires passés en revue ne diffèrent pas sensiblement des grès marins, au double point de vue de la forme des éléments et de leur préparation mécanique [...] Mais il se fait que ces grès (grès houillers, grès permo-triassiques, etc) ont un caractère très particulier [...] Tous, sans exception, présentent ce trait fondamental que minéraux et gangue ont même origine. En d'autres termes, les eaux ont transporté - sans les séparer - les produits de la désagrégation et de la décomposition des roches éruptives et cristallophylliennes, dont ils dérivent en droite ligne.
