Il est important de distinguer «parajuriste» des termes «technicien juridique», «technicien en droit» et «assistant juridique». Le parajuriste est détenteur d'un diplôme universitaire en droit, non membre d'un barreau et il travaille sous la supervision d'un avocat en offrant des services juridiques dans les limites permises par la loi.
