A 32 kD anticarcinogenic lymphokine, a cytokine with a modulatory action, the ability to permeabilize tumor cells, upregulate sensitivity of tumor cells to lymphocyte killing, increase the uptake of pharmacologically active molecules and downregulate viral gene expression and multidrug resistance in tumor cells.

Une hormone humaine ayant des propriétés anticancéreuses vient d'être isolée par des chercheurs de l'Institut National du Cancer de Béthesda (États-Unis). Fabriquée par les lymphocytes, cette hormone, la leukoréguline, n'a rien à voir avec l'interféron ou les interleukines, autres substances anticancéreuses potentielles déjà connues. Les premiers résultats obtenus chez la souris sont encourageants : la leukoréguline réduit de moitié la croissance cellulaire au niveau des tumeurs induites expérimentalement.
