Au Canada, la constitution d'une telle provision n'est pas conforme aux principes comptables généralement reconnus; en France, elle est permise par le Plan comptable général pour un risque rattachable aux exercices clos et cette provision, qui entre dans la catégorie des dettes provisionnées lorsqu'elle concerne une obligation à l'égard d'un tiers, n'est pas déductible du résultat fiscal. En Belgique, la provision de propre assureur est possible sur base statistique.
