Realizing that this discovery [the transverse-excitation technique] had just paved the way to a new generation of high-energy-pulse lasers at high repetition rates, DREV [Defence Research Establishment, Valcartier] decided to formalize under project LOTION all research efforts directed to the refinement of the novel transverse-excitation technique for CO2 lasers ... Project LOTION was terminated in January 1970 with the public disclosure of the DREV TEA-CO2 laser.
