Sédiments déposés quand le niveau de la mer est bas. Ces dépôts se localisent au-delà de la rupture de pente côtière, en fonction des positions relatives de la ligne de baie et du point d'équilibre par rapport aux ruptures de pente côtière et de pente continentale.

OBS

Ainsi, il ne faut pas toujours associer les dépôts de bas niveau marin à des environnements profonds. On peut avoir des dépôts de prisme de bas niveau déposés sous une faible profondeur d'eau. Il suffit que le niveau marin soit plus haut que la rupture de pente continentale, mais plus bas que la rupture de pente côtière (la ligne de baie et le point d'équilibre doivent être en aval de la rupture de pente côtière).
