[Les Lamellibranches de la famille des Mactridae ont une] coquille équivalve, inéquilatérale, fermée ou bâillante; [une] charnière composée sur la valve droite d'une dent cardinale formée de deux branches divergentes, sur la valve gauche d'une dent lambdiforme qui s'engage dans la fossette formée par les deux branches divergentes de la cardinale droite, latérales non constantes. [Le ligament interne [est] situé dans une fossette profonde ou cuilleron ligamentaire placé contre la branche postérieure de la cardinale; [ces Lamellibranches ont un] sinus palléal plus ou moins profond; [et] deux muscles adducteurs subégaux.
