N-body simulations are used in astrophysics to model galaxy evolution, colliding galaxies, dark matter distribution in the Universe, and planetary systems. They are also used in simulations of molecular structures.

Les astrophysiciens ont sélectionné 180 000 de ces galaxies pour étudier l'homogénéité de l'Univers aujourd’hui et à différentes époques passées. Ils ont combiné la méthode utilisée sur les données de SDSS [Sloan Digital Sky Survey] avec une analyse fondée sur une théorie plus générale reposant sur les fractales. Ils ont aussi utilisé une simulation à N corps modélisant l'évolution de l'Univers et la formation des grandes structures pour valider leur approche.
