Il a été observé que certains pollens de palmiers dattiers mâles agissaient sur la production de dattes ainsi que sur la précocité (temps maturation, phénomène dit : métaxénie); cette remarque est très importante et accroît considérablement l'importance à donner au dokkar en phéniciculture, ce qui n'est pas le cas pour l'Afrique du Nord à l'heure actuelle, où son action est méconnue par les utilisateurs.
