Déminéralisation squelettique généralisée, par insuffisance de fixation phosphocalcique sur la trame protéique de l'os ou tissu ostéoïde. Elle se manifeste cliniquement par des douleurs et des déformations osseuses avec fractures spontanées. Les causes d'ostéomalacie sont les carences solaire et vitaminique (vitamine D), les insuffisances d'apport et d'absorption phosphocalciques (gastrites et gastrectomies, insuffisances biliaire, pancréatique et intestinale), ainsi que les déperditions phosphocalciques exagérées, rénales (tubulopathies) et extrarénales (grossesse et allaitement).
