Le jour lunaire est l'intervalle de temps compris entre deux passages consécutifs de la Lune au même méridien. Il est plus long de cinquante-deux minutes environ que le jour solaire moyen. Cela correspond à l'intervalle qui sépare deux marées consécutives en un même lieu, puisque les marées sont surtout dues à l'action de la Lune sur les eaux de la mer.
