Forced air systems (heating). A motor-driven fan is used to circulate filtered, heated air from a central heating unit through supply ducts to each of the rooms.

Warm air furnaces are of two types, gravity and forced air. Forced warm air furnaces use a motor-driven blower to circulate air over the heat exchanger and through the ducts.

Fans are critical to the control of exhaust rates for effective ventilation. Motor-driven fans are used to draw the air into the hood and move it through the ducts away from where it poses a threat.
