Casting [or molding] is a major technique in candlemaking, and molded candles come in a seemingly endless range of shapes and sizes. They are quite easy to make once you have learnt the basic techniques, and molds are available to suit every taste ... Most molds are used upside-down so that the top surface of the poured wax becomes the flat base of the candle.

The process of shaping ceramic objects by pressing soft clay into moulds (or pitchers) made from a hand-modelled prototype.

As objects made in moulds were often of several parts, the separate parts were joined by a repairer to make the whole by luting.

Clay may be moulded in a number of ways, the process offering obvious advantages in series production. [Porcelain figures were formed by moulding individual sections and joining them together.]
