MULTIENZYME SYSTEM [2 records]

Record 1 2011-01-12

English

Subject field(s)
  • Biological Sciences
DEF

Group of various enzymes involved in a chain of reactions.

CONT

In many multienzyme systems the end product of the reaction sequence may act as a specific inhibitor of an enzyme at or near the beginning of the sequence, with the result that the rate of the entire sequence of reactions is determined by the steady-state concentration of the end product. The classical example is the multienzyme sequence catalyzing the conversion of L-threonine to L-isoleucine, which occurs in five enzyme-catalyzed steps.

CONT

DEF

A heteropolymeric protein, consisting of an ordered association of functionally and structurally different enzymes, which catalyse successive steps in a chain of metabolic reactions.

CONT

The multienzyme complex is an example of heterologous protein-protein interaction in a functional complex. The known multienzyme complexes consist of 2-7 different catalytic units associated noncovalently, with no associated lipids, nucleic acids or enzymatically inactive protein.

CONT
