Le terme vient de «murat», contraction de «munitions à risques atténués». La muratisation permet d'assurer la sécurité des hommes et des matériels lors de la manipulation et du stockage des munitions. Elle permet d'éviter, par exemple, les explosions en masse. Le procédé est de plus en plus largement employé pour les munitions de gros calibre : obus, bombes, mines et torpilles sous-marines, missiles, etc. Les munitions [...] seront toutes muratisées.
