Commencing in 1974 and produced by the Education and Cultural Affairs Division of the National Museum of Man in conjunction with the relevant research divisions, the Museum Kits were multi-media, thematic, learning packages which were loaned free of charge for two-week intervals to schools community groups, libraries, etc. Each "museum in a box" included artifacts, specimens and related interpretive material such as films, maps, fact sheets, slides and resource books. There were two types of kits - a small kit with limited artifacts and resource materials, usually in separate language versions and the larger, bilingual, more complex kits, with resources inserted according to the requirements of the borrowers. The kits were designed for the 11-14 age group and were to promote an understanding and appreciation for Canada's multicultural heritage as well as the functions and importance of human history museums within Canada. Catalogues of available kits were produced and circulated through the National Programs Division. They have been discontinued. 1, record 1, English, - museum%20in%20a%20box

1, record 1, French, - mus%C3%A9e%20dans%20une%20bo%C3%AEte
