The CLearinghouse has a full and part-time staff of eight, and contains a collection of over 9,000 items unique to Canadian substance abuse and addictions issues. Staff time is divided between two major efforts: development of information products, and provision of information services. One of the primary reasons for the creation of the Clearinghouse was to fill the gaps in substance abuse information in Canada, and to disseminate that information to those needing it.

Le Centre national de documentation recueille plus de 9 000 ressources vidéos et documentaires uniques sur les toxicomanies au Canada. Le personnel consacre ses efforts dans deux domaines particuliers, soit : la mise au point de nouveaux véhicules d'information et la prestation de services de renseignements. En plus de maintenir le Réseau canadien d'information sur les toxicomanies (RCIT), le Centre national d'information de documentation doit faciliter l'accès à des réseaux d'information internationaux.
