Language learning skills impact greatly on the ability of students to learn. In online distance training, however, it is possible to take a 100-word sample of a student's linguistic ability and sample it against the lexical coefficients of the national language thesaurus to punch out courses which eliminate vocabulary that is not within the student's range.

Les universités commencent à utiliser la téléformation en ligne pour augmenter leur effectif étudiant sans avoir à disposer d'autres installations. Les étudiants effectuent habituellement un court séjour sur le campus au début et à la fin de leurs études. Entre les deux, ils suivent la majorité de leurs cours via Internet. S'ils étaient augmentés de façon substantielle, les programmes d'enseignement à distance réduiraient le besoin de professeurs à temps plein et augmenteraient le besoin de professeurs à temps partiel ou à contrat et de chargés de cours occasionnels, qui constituent une main-d'œuvre plus souple.
