Surface de contact de deux couches sédimentaires, généralement superposées, déposées successivement.

On appelle «plan de stratification» une surface caractérisée par une forme, par des accidents et par des marques. Il a donc valeur de «repère».

OBS

stratification : Disposition des sédiments en couches ou strates séparées par un changement de couleurs, de texture, de dimensions des particules et de composition. La stratification sous-entend généralement que les couches de sédiments se détachent facilement sur les plans de stratification à cause de la taille et le genre de matériaux ou une certaine interruption dans la déposition qui a permis des changements avant le dépôt d'autres substances.
