L’implantation de positons à des profondeurs contrôlées proches de la surface permet d’étudier le profil des caractéristiques d’annihilation en fonction de la profondeur dans des couches minces surfaciques. Des implanteurs de positons, composés successivement d’un étage de modération puis de guidage et d’accélération, ont été développés pour produire des faisceaux de positons monocinétiques de faible énergie (de 0 à 50 keV [kiloélectronvolts]). Il existe deux types d’implanteurs selon que le faisceau de positons est continu ou pulsé.
