The Packaging Standards Committee has been around for a long time --- Only you may have known it as the Freight Classification Committee of the Canadian Freight Association. We have taken on a brand new name and joined the Railway Association of Canada. The Packaging Standards Committee is comprised of professionals form the Damage Prevention and Freight Claims Services of the Member Railroads as well as a representative member of the RAC who is Chairman of the Committee.

The Payload Support Center (PSC) is being implemented at the CSA [Canadian Space Agency] to conduct payload activities such as communication protocols verification and procedure validation & verification. The PSC will support crew training and mission simulations. The results of the PSC and DFL tests will be used in the final certification of a payload. In addition, the PSC will play an important role during the on-orbit operation of a payload. The payload flight backup unit or engineering model will be installed in the PSC and will be available to help the payload operators in case of any on-orbit problem. By using a duplicate of the payload in the PSC, the operators, with the help of the technical team, will be able to duplicate the situation and determine the proper corrective procedures. Those procedures will then be either forwarded to the on-orbit crew or to the ground operations personnel to correct the anomaly. The PSC includes the EXPRESS Rack Simulator, the Suitcase Simulator (when required), a workbench area for payload developers and a connection to the CSA Payload Telescience Operations Center (PTOC).

... nacreous clouds ... form at stratospheric altitudes (15-30 km) in local temperature minima caused by atmospheric "lee" waves. The waves form when strong winds blow from the Atlantic across the Scandinavian mountain chain, towards Kiruna. Nacreous clouds are one type of polar stratospheric cloud (PSC). PSCs are an important factor in the breakdown of stratospheric ozone - ozone destruction through reaction with active chlorine compounds proceeds much faster on the surface of cloud particles than it would if the clouds were not there.

The 1985 Canada-U.S. Pacific Salmon Treaty was negotiated to ensure conservation and an equitable harvest of salmon stocks. Representatives from the two countries meet annually to review the past year's fishery and to negotiate fishing regimes for future years. The main implementing body for the Treaty is the PSC that is divided into two national sections, with commissioners appointed by each nation.
