[The] team has used entangled microwaves to create the world's first quantum radar. Their device, which can detect objects at a distance using only a few photons, raises the prospect of stealthy radar systems that emit little detectable electromagnetic radiation.

Les radars actuels classiques reposent sur des technologies à micro-ondes qui, si elles sont efficaces dans des environnements relativement calmes, montrent très vite leurs limites dans des environnements thermiquement bruyants, c'est-à-dire avec beaucoup de bruit thermique. Pour contourner ce problème, les physiciens travaillent depuis quelques années sur le concept de radar quantique; une technologie radar utilisant l'intrication quantique pour détecter des objets, y compris dans les environnements les plus bruyants.
