The science of measuring electromagnetic radiation, often accomplished with a device called a radiometer.

electromagnetic radiation: Radiation made up of oscillating electric and magnetic fields and propagated with the speed of light. Includes gamma radiation, X-rays, ultraviolet, visible, and infrared radiation, and radar and radio waves.

radiometry: term standardized by ISO and officially approved by the RADARSAT-2 Official Approval Group (ROAG).

La radiométrie a pour objet de déterminer la puissance du rayonnement électromagnétique dans le domaine du rayonnement optique (longueurs d'onde comprises entre 100 nm et 100 m environ).

radiométrie : Outre les radiomètres embarqués sur satellite, il en existe qui évaluent depuis la surface terrestre les composantes du bilan radiatif, c'est-à-dire l'éclairement du rayonnement solaire dans le visible et le proche infrarouge ainsi que ceux des rayonnements émis dans l'infrarouge par la Terre et par son atmosphère. On préfère alors qualifier d'actinométrie la mesure que permettent d'assurer de tels instruments, qui portent eux-mêmes le nom d'actinomètres et se répartissent en trois types principaux : les pyrhéliomètres, [...] les pyranomètres, [...] Les pyrradiomètres [...]

rayonnement électromagnétique : Rayonnement caractérisé par un champ électrique et un champ magnétique. Les rayonnements électromagnétiques comprennent, dans l'ordre croissant des longueurs d'onde, les rayons gamma, les rayons X, l'ultraviolet, la lumière visible, l'infrarouge, les micro-ondes et les ondes radio. Plus la longueur d'onde du rayonnement est élevée, plus sa fréquence est basse.
