On 1 January 2001, the cities and municipalities previously comprised in the "Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton" created on 1 January 1969, and sometimes referred to as the "Greater Ottawa" or, erroneously the "Metropolitain Ottawa" (the concept including suburban municipalities), were merged to become the new "city of Ottawa." Thus, the date marked the end of the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton. 2, record 1, English, - Regional%20Municipality%20of%20Ottawa%2DCarleton

2, record 1, French, - Municipalit%C3%A9%20r%C3%A9gionale%20d%27Ottawa%2DCarleton
