Ces nouveaux types de casiers ne sont pas reliés à une bouée qui flotte à la surface et qui permet normalement aux bateaux de les récupérer le moment venu. Leur emplacement est marqué par GPS, et quand vient le temps de les remonter, un signal acoustique est envoyé au fond pour activer le système. Dans un premier cas, une bouée attachée au casier est alors relâchée pour faire monter un filin à la surface. L'autre système utilise une bouteille d'air comprimé pour gonfler un sac de levage qui propulse le casier à la surface.
