Part of The Next Step series, this film looks at innovative approaches to providing services and accommodation for battered women in rural, northern and Native communities. The shelter at West Bay reserve in Ontario is singled out as a project that was built as a reminder that the reserve will not tolerate violence against women. The film emphasizes the urgent need for trained staff and ongoing programs. (Moving On and Sylvie's Story are the other films in this series.)
