Secondary treatment systems are those systems used to produce a liquid effluent acceptable for release from the mining facility. Several types of secondary treatment systems are commonly employed. All use some form of physical, chemical or mechanical process, either singly or in combination. Treatment may result in the accumulation of sludges and solid wastes which may require careful management due to the concentration of radioactive and non-radioactive contaminants.

Les systèmes de traitement secondaire sont les systèmes utilisés pour produire des effluents liquides de qualité acceptable pour être rejetés hors de l'installation minière. Plusieurs types de systèmes de traitement secondaire sont couramment utilisés. Tous sont basés sur une certaine forme de traitement physique, chimique ou mécanique, ou sur une combinaison de ces traitements. Le traitement peut conduire à l'accumulation de boues et de déchets solides dont il faut alors assurer soigneusement la gestion en raison de la concentration élevée de contaminants radioactifs et non radioactifs.
