Opération sylvicole qui consiste à passer d'un régime à un autre, et notamment du régime du taillis ou du taillis-sous-futaie au régime de la futaie; le temps nécessaire à l'obtention de la futaie sur toute la surface de la série ou de la forêt traitée s'appelle durée de la conversion. Par extension, l'introduction d'une nouvelle essence dans le peuplement initial est également une conversion, obtenue le plus souvent par reboisement.
