SIMATIC [1 record]

Record 1 2008-09-05

English

Subject field(s)
  • Plate Tectonics
  • Geochemistry
CONT

Geologists believe that the crust is divided into two layers - the sialic layer, and the simatic layer. The sialic layer (It's name is derived from silicon and aluminium) is rigid, and is believed to be floating on the less rigid simatic layer, the name of which comes from silicon and magnesium. Think of the sialic layer floating on the simatic layer rather like an iceberg floating on water.

OBS

simatic: adjective of sima.

OBS

simatic: term used at Natural Resources Canada - Earth Sciences Sector.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Tectonique des plaques
  • Géochimie
DEF

Qualifie un magma sous-marin à peine solidifié.

CONT
