Histogram matching to mosaic adjacent images compares a 'slave' image to an adjacent 'master' image. The distribution of brightness values in the slave image is manipulated to match the distribution of brightness values in the master scene.

Pour calculer le déphasage entre les deux prises, il est essentiel d'établir une relation entre les pixels des deux images. Celles-ci doivent donc être non seulement recalées l'une par rapport à l'autre, mais pour qu'elles soient parfaitement superposables, une correction géométrique est requise. Nous nous trouvons face aux problèmes rencontrés en radargrammétrie, dus à la stéréovision, toutefois la déformation à appliquer est dans notre cas beaucoup plus faible. Une simple corrélation automatique peut convenir, celle-ci peut en outre être optimisée en maximisant le rapport signal sur bruit de l'interférogramme. L'image qui sert de référence est qualifiée d'image maître et la seconde d'image esclave.
