CONT

Local exhaust ventilation. ... Hood designs can be placed into three broad categories based on the methods used to capture contaminants: exterior hoods, receiving hoods, and exhaust enclosures. ... Exterior hoods are suction openings located adjacent to open sources of contamination. This type of hood removes contaminants into the duct system. The shape and size of the capture zone (the area into which contaminants are drawn) is determined by the design of the hood and the rate of airflow. Examples of these hoods include side draft hoods, slot hoods, downdraft hoods and exhaust ducts located close to the source.
